May 13, 2009 – Night before leaving

May 13th, 2009 by Aaron Schneider

I leave for South Africa tomorrow in the morning.  For those of you who do not know, I will be volunteering in GVN’s childcare program and will be there for 2 weeks.

As I have been talking to friends and family about my trip, I am blessed with overwhelming support from each of them.  Upon first completing the process to go to South Africa, I was quite nervous.  However, as I have been reading more about the program and the country, I am becoming more and more excited about it all.  Even though I know that this will be a rewarding and learning experience for me, I realize that it is important to note that doing this service work takes the focus away from me.  I look forward to trying to make a difference in the lives of others in a place far different than what I have grown up knowing.  I expect to be very humbled.  I am trying not to set many expectations for myself because I think that what I will experience there is going to be far different than I can imagine.  I am trying to avoid thinking that I know what to expect but I am ready for whatever this experience holds.  Thank you all for your support and prayers.  Love.
