Andahuaylillas
June 9th, 2008 by Rochelle TrailI arrived yesterday in this amazingly beautiful town with a backdrop of gorgeous mountains and cobbled streets. Its just like something you imagine when you think of a typical Peruvian village. It is so sleepy compared to Cuzco and I think I its highly likely that I am the only gringo in town.
I am staying in the Casa de Sol (House of Sun) and it opens onto a beautiful courtyard with guestrooms off it and therapy rooms for reiki, yoga, meditation and ultrasounds. My room has the most beautiful view of the garden and mountains – it is like a painting.
Everything was closed (Sunday) when I arrived so I jumped on a bus and went to the market in Urcos 10 mins down the road. I was definitely the only gringo wandering around by bits of animals (guts, brains, hearts etc) displayed for sale. I got a 3 course lunch for NZ$1.50 in a cafe except that they had run out of dessert. Que sera sera.
I was supposed to begin today with the nurse doing massage. However it has been fairly quiet possibly as there is a fiesta in town or this just might be the way it goes here.
I decided to go to the hairdresser but unfortunately she couldn´t shampoo or blowdry my hair as she had no… water. And it wouldn´t surprise me if she didn´t have a blowdrier either. I got my hair done once in Cuzco and seriously it saved me from a destiny of crazy wavy hair that feels like brillo! Everything dries up in this altitude.
I have been diligently working through my Spanish exercise books and through lack of anything else to read have been translating a a Spanish gossip magazine. It was great despite being dated 2004 and I didn´t know any of the people mentioned – scandal is scandal!!
Am planning to head back to Cuzco for the weekend so will enjoy the tranquility of Andahuaylillas while I have it.
