First days of placement!
May 7th, 2009 by Katie GibsonHi everyone,
Well, we have just completed our first 2 days of placement in Manamanju, Kathmandu, Nepal. The village (which reminds me more of a sub-burb) is pleasant. The people are very welcoming and the children are adorable. Paul and I have been sick, on and off, for the last week – making it difficult to adjust. For this reason, and a few others, we have decided to come home early. Our 1-month volunteer service will now only be 2 weeks in total. Thankfully the children’s home where we are helping is very self-sufficient and well run. The children are generally happy, healthy, and safe, and so there is not much to do besides ensure the home continues to run smoothly. Since placement we have also seen many beautiful sights, including the Swoyambu Monkey Temple overlooking all of Kathmandu. Just gorgeous! Tomorrow we return to Manamanju for 4 more nights, at which point we will be done our placement and spend our last few days in Nepal sightseeing, shopping, and relaxing (my kind of trip!).
Notes to a few of my friends/family: Mattie – I’ll be home by the 19th…don’t let appleseed arrive early! Sinclair (I don’t think you’ll see this but) – have a great time in Europe…I will miss you and your beautilful curly hair! The Benners – I am so excited to see you all…I will come visit as soon as I can!
Anyways, that is all. I will make one more post (possibly my last) in 5 days or so when I finish placement. Until then, take care. We love you! xo.
Namaste.
Katie (& Paul)
