March 21, The Flight

March 25th, 2009 by Elias Parisca

On the flight, London Gatwick to Accra, Ghana.  After sleeping for a couple hours, it was time for Lunch!  The stewardess woke me up from my nap to ask me whether I wanted meat or fish.  All disoriented I answered “fish”, soon realizing that I probably made a terrible mistake by ordering fish on a plane – all before I even set foot in Ghana.  Turns out, I was proven very wrong.  The fish was actually pretty good.

Arrived at Accra airport at 7pm, felt right like getting off at the Margarita airport in Venezuela, hot, humid, beach-like weather – Accra is on the Southern coast of West Africa.  Exchanged some money to the local currency (Cedis).  My bag took about half hour to come out, but it did safe and sound.  Left airport security, went right through, found the guy that was supposed to pick me up holding up a sign with my name on it – I always wanted to do that. This guy’s name is Joy, 25-year old guy with dreads and a very strong accent.  Everything by this point is going way too smoothly, so I to get a bit worried that soon I’ll be slapped across the face with some reality…
