Count down for Ethiopia – 63 nights
August 26th, 2009 by Sami Buisson-DanielChange of plans because of home obligations – so now I’ll be volunteering for November and December, 2009. I’ve made my flight plans on Ethiopia Airlines leaving October 28, 2009 and returning January 5, 2010. While that seems so far away, it isn’t. There are still many things to do. I’ve paid for my room/board for the two months and also paid for Chubb Insurance for the time I’ll be away. I still must see what shots need to be up-dated, purchase malaria pills (the weekly ones) and to send in my police report when it’s returned to me by the City of Philadelphia Record Department. After that, it’s the packing and then it’s the trip. A volunteers trip doesn’t start with the moment he/she touches land where he/she is volunteering. It starts with the thought of wanting to do something for people who are less fortunate. From there it’s the “cost” thing. Yes, it’s expensive but well worth it! If you’re good about fund raising you may even be able to have others pay the way for you. While I’ve done that in the past (not all of it but a portion of the cost) it’s more difficult this time because people simply don’t have the money to spare. My advise to you is not to give up – ask cause nothing ventured is nothing gained!
To all of you who have given so freely of what you can, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. For the others who have not been able to give this year, I’ll still take you with me in my heart. I know you would have given if you could have.
So, I’m on the count-down – 63 nights
