Es mi primo dia en Ecuador

¡Hola mis amigos y mis familia!  Estoy bien.

Although I had to travel all over the United States just to get out of the country, my trip has gone well thusfar.  I flew on a commuter jet from Austin to Dallas and on another commuter jet from Dallas to Savannah to Miami.  Contrary to American Airlines’ reputation, that have all been on time and my baggage arrived with me in Quito.  My flight from Miami to Quito – Ecuador´s capital city and the world´s second highest capital in elevation (next to La Paz, Bolivia) – was 20 minutes late, but that is no hair off my back.  This flight also served a modest dinner – they still serve food on a certain select few flights!

At the Miami airport, I was able to call Kelly and subsequently tried to access my computer, which to my great dismay, freezes up at the logon screen.  I called my dad to help troubleshoot it, but then my phone died before we could try all the options, and my phone is useless in Ecuador. I´m going to try to take it to a computer repair shop, if I can find a reliable one. If not, I´ll be at the mercy of the jungle for a month! Also, my mp3 player, not an iPod, freezes up when I try to load my music – so I´m also without that.  Technology has failed me!!! I guess my journey to the rainforest was meant to be a primitive experience for me.

Last night, in Quito, I found a John Lennon bar, had a pint of the national Pilsner, and watched the Saints kick the Colts for the last 4 minutes of the Super Bowl.  I´m no American football fan, and neither team has any significance for me, but I am glad the Saints won.  Then I found an internet cafe and got to Skype with Kelly for a few minutes before heading off to bed at the Posada del Maple hostel.  Now I´m off to explore Quito.

And for the record, I didn´t wear my shoes from Austin to Quito.  I think I´m gonna go Vibram FiveFingers today!
