Midiwe! ( Good Afternoon)-
Today has been a very slow day but a very good one as well.  Nishonk and I went to a Co op in town to shop around this morning and I ended up getting a lot of souviners for home.  Then I came back to the house and had a little lunch then attempted to organize my brain before taking a nap.  The new volunteers and I are being taking out to dinner tonight by the director of F.V.A.  Her name is Imaculay and she is incredibly nice!  She took me out to eat my first week [...]

Turi Kumwe!!!

July 31st, 2009 by Abby Peterson

In Kinyarwanda Turi Kumwe means “we are all together” and it has kind of been our slogan here.  I’m very sorry that I havn’t updated in so long but I have just been so busy!  I will try to sum up the last week.  Ashley my roommate went home this last Tuesday and on Monday all the volunteers went to visit her orphanage ( E.D.D.) because they had a big going away setup for her.  We got there in the afternoon and they played a game of football, or soccer back home, which was the students against staff and they named [...]

Hey,
Sorry I havn’t been able to keep up with the blog that much, I have just been incredibly busy!  Let’s see, I gave my first lesson Thursday and it went pretty good but I’m just having a hard time getting through to the kids.  With the language barrier I feel like I’m not getting the meaning of the lessons across like I want to so I’m currently struggling with how I can get across to them.  The director of the orphanage asked me friday if I would stay from five to six to help him with his english, and since [...]

Muraho,
I’m very sorry that it has taken me a long time to update but I have had a hard couple of days.  I arrived Monday afternoon here in Rwanda but I was very very very jetlagged and i experienced a lot of culture shock upon arriving.  I started to almost feel depressed and withdrawn and would experience anxiety constantly, I felt like all I wanted to do was lay in bed and talk to my family on the phone, which as many of you know is not me at all.  My mom informed me today that the malaria medication has [...]

Muraho!
My name is Abby Peterson and I’m 20 years old, for those of you who don’t know…and I’m going on a trip to Kigali, Rwanda in Central Africa to work in an orphanage for a month.  I go to Calvary Baptist Church in Joplin, Missouri and I made this blog mainly to keep everybody at my church, friends, and family informed of my trip.  I leave Saturday 7/11/2009…I’m getting pretty nervous and excited at the same time,  I’m kind of a bundle of emotions!  But overall I’m ready to go,  I can’t wait to get over the angst and just [...]
